The present is embodied in Hexagram 17 - Sui (Following): There will be great progress and success, but one must be firm and correct. There will then be no error.
The first (bottommost) line, undivided, shows one changing the object of his pursuit. If he be firm and correct, there will be good fortune. Going beyond his own gate to find associates, he will achieve merit.
The fifth line, undivided, shows us the ruler sincere in fostering all that is excellent. There will be good fortune.
The topmost line, divided, shows us sincerity firmly held and clung to, and bound fast. We see the king with it presenting his offerings on the western mountain.
The situation is shifting, and Yin (the passive feminine force) is gaining ground.

The future is embodied in Hexagram 35 - Chin (Progress): We see a prince who secures the tranquility of the people, and is presented on that account with numerous horses by the king. Three times in a day he is received at interviews.
The things most apparent, those above and in front, are embodied by the upper trigram Tui (Lake), which is transforming into Li (Fire). As part of this process, joy, pleasure, and attraction are giving way to brightness and warmth.
The things least apparent, those below and behind, are embodied by the lower trigram Chen (Thunder), which is transforming into K'un (Earth). As part of this process, movement, initiative, and action are giving way to docility and receptivity.
