Today's I Ching for Kurt Vonnegut
The coins have been tossed...
|The present is embodied in Hexagram 49 - Ko (Revolution): What takes place is believed in only after it has been accomplished. There will be great progress and success. Advantage will come from being firm and correct. In that case, occasion for repentance will disappear.
|The first (bottommost) line, undivided, shows its subject bound with the skin of a yellow ox.
|The fifth line, undivided, shows the great man producing his changes, as the tiger does when he changes his stripes. Before he divines and proceeds to action, faith has been reposed in him.
|The situation is shifting, and Yin (the passive feminine force) is gaining ground.
|The future is embodied in Hexagram 62 - Hsiao Kuo (Preponderance of the Small): In these circumstances which it implies, there will be progress and attainment, but it will be advantageous to be firm and correct. Action may be taken in small affairs, but not in great affairs. Like the notes that come down from a bird on the wing, to descend is better than to ascend. There will, in this way, be great good fortune.
|The things most apparent, those above and in front, are embodied by the upper trigram Tui (Lake), which is transforming into Chen (Thunder). As part of this process, joy, pleasure, and attraction are giving way to movement, initiative, and action.
|The things least apparent, those below and behind, are embodied by the lower trigram Li (Fire), which is transforming into Ken (Mountain). As part of this process, brightness and warmth are giving way to stillness and obstruction.
