The present is embodied in Hexagram 12 - P'I (Stagnation): There is a lack of understanding between the different classes of men, and its indication is unfavorable to the firm and correct course of the superior man. We see in it greatness gone and the lesser come upon us.
The third line, divided, shows its subject ashamed of the purpose folded in his breast.
In the fifth line, undivided, we see him who brings the distress and obstruction to a close - the great man and fortunate. But let him say, "We may perish! We may perish!", so shall the state of things become firm, as if bound to a clump of bushy mulberry trees.
The sixth line, undivided, shows the overthrow and removal of the condition of distress and obstruction. Before this there was that condition. Hereafter there will joy.
The situation is shifting, and Yin (the passive feminine force) is gaining ground.

The future is embodied in Hexagram 62 - Hsiao Kuo (Preponderance of the Small): In these circumstances which it implies, there will be progress and attainment, but it will be advantageous to be firm and correct. Action may be taken in small affairs, but not in great affairs. Like the notes that come down from a bird on the wing, to descend is better than to ascend. There will, in this way, be great good fortune.
The things most apparent, those above and in front, are embodied by the upper trigram Chi'en (Heaven), which is transforming into Chen (Thunder). As part of this process, strength and creativity are giving way to movement, initiative, and action.
The things least apparent, those below and behind, are embodied by the lower trigram K'un (Earth), which is transforming into Ken (Mountain). As part of this process, docility and receptivity are giving way to stillness and obstruction.
