William Blake Tarot TransformationTwo aspects of Time are here joined at the hip to form a grotesque angel. Its blue persona harvests the life of the past using "time's enormous scythe, whose ample sweep strikes empires from the root.". Loss must always precede the coming rebirth. Time's red persona, new skin still raw, looks into the future and new life. Most of the people shown in the card are oblivious to their fate. However, this card is primarily a metaphor for mystical, not physical, death -- it points to the need for transforming oneself during this lifetime, beginning with this moment, as an essential step in the process of spiritual initiation. In the lower border, various remnants of defeated humanity and artifacts of hard times are evident: thistles, the fractured sheep hook of innocence, the broken pitcher of life, and the overgrown fountain of fertility abandoned to frogs and the locust's scourge. There is no escape from the decay of worldly things, except through the transformative act of shedding the past. The William Blake Tarot explores the mystical vision and artistry of the renowned English painter and poet. Through rich interpretations focused on creative undertakings, it has long been the deck of choice for artists, writers, musicians, and thinkers.
